What Summer Fashion Looks Like in 2025

Summer fashion in 2025 has found an interesting balance. There’s still a love for relaxed dressing, but it’s now being mixed in with some sharper details and smarter materials. Comfort hasn’t gone anywhere, but things feel a little more intentional now. There’s more shape, more polish and less of the baggy loungewear leftovers from previous seasons.

Colour that’s wearable, not shouty

Colours this summer are punchy without being overpowering, think rust, olive, butter yellow, and a slate blue that keeps turning up in everything from denim to tailoring. There’s also a shift away from plain neutrals, designers like Peter Do and The Row are leaning into earthy tones that layer well without looking flat. The result is a palette that looks pulled together without trying too hard, and doesn’t fade the second you step into the sun.

Sheer fabrics, but not the obvious kind

One of the most talked about trends this season is the sheer layer, but it’s not all mesh tops and bodycon. Instead, there’s an architectural take on transparency. Cecilie Bahnsen has been playing with frothy organza in structured cuts. Ferragamo’s recent collections used layered chiffon over tailored pieces, creating movement without losing shape. It’s the kind of sheer that looks smart rather than risky and it works especially well for evenings or warm city days where you want texture without heat.

Longer lengths and looser silhouettes

Micro shorts and crop tops are still around, but they’re not the whole story. Longer, floatier cuts are everywhere this summer. Maxi skirts with pockets and breezy cargo trousers are outselling skimpier options in plenty of major retailers. Brands like Tibi and Toteme are showing that length doesn’t have to mean frumpy- instead it feels modern and easy, especially when paired with a close fitting vest or open button down.

Details that change the whole feel

Designers are focusing more on shape and fastenings this year. Unexpected ruching, asymmetric ties, twisted straps and off kilter buttons are popping up across all price points. These little adjustments can make simple outfits feel far more styled. Even high street stores are picking up on it, with COS and Arket offering versions of these details in linen, cupro and tencel blends that actually breathe. Accessories are getting the same treatment too. Textured bags, layered belts and standout pieces like embroidered earrings are helping add personality without overpowering an outfit.

Sustainability is now assumed, not a bonus

There’s also been a change in how people shop. Materials matter more, but brands don’t need to shout about it as much anymore. People expect things to be made well, from good fabric, and by a brand that’s doing at least something right. Ganni’s recycled nylon swimwear and BITE Studios’ organic cotton pieces have become staples without needing a full marketing campaign behind them. Fabric tags are being checked, that’s just how people shop now.

This summer is less about doing something dramatic with your style and more about knowing what suits you and choosing it well. There’s plenty of trend to tap into, but the overall feel is calmer, more grown up and built to last beyond August.
