High heels have long been a fashion statement. Over time, heels have gotten higher, thinner, and even switched genders (yes, heels started out as fashion for men!). Many women have pairs and pairs of pumps, stilettos, wedges, kittens, and more bursting from closets and selected to go with every outfit. Others find them too painful to wear on a daily basis (or at all).
Several studies have found adverse health effects for women who wear heels often, but many still choose to wear them. Others are required to wear them as part of a workplace dress code.
Businesses are seeing pushback for such policies, but how do women feel about them? It varies highly. Whether you love your power pumps and wear them every day or hate those killer heels, check out this infographic that breaks down the history of heels at work and the issues surrounding this controversial feminine footwear.
