Fashion Mistakes Men Make and Should Avoid

Men, unlike women, are not keen on riding the fashion bandwagon. The outcome of which is some unforgivable fashion blunders they commit, being blissfully unaware. Believe it or not, how you dress up can significantly affect your love life, career and health in a huge way. So before the cynic in you turns around wincing at just what we said, read on what we have to say. Slag — if slag you must — later.

Bad fashion choices that you should stop making right now

Wrong pants

It is best to wear jeans during casual occasions, and best kept during corporate events. No matter how good you look in your skinny cut pant, it has no place in formal gatherings. Stick to the tried and tested men’s suits to achieve a professional look. Nevertheless, make sure to wear well-fitted suits, a suit too loose or trousers too long is still a major fashion faux pas!

Cargo shorts

We know you like to bring a lot of stuff but hate to carry a bag, but it doesn’t justify why you need to wear cargo shorts. The extremely pocketed shorts are a thing of the past, and it’s wise to leave it as it is.

Black shoes for all seasons

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

Black shoes are versatile and easy to pair with formal outfits, but it is not the only color that would match perfectly with your attire. Other colors such as brown or burgundy can complement your black, brown and navy blue suit.

Too much graphics and prints

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

Wearing shirts or pants with elaborate prints and graphics are cool ten years ago. Today, shirts with large logos are an eye sore. It’s not a good idea to invest your money on branded clothes with images plastered all over the piece of fabric that can make you look like a billboard. Better opt for shirts with simple prints or plain design.

Velour Tracksuits

Simply because velour tracksuits were once considered fashionable doesn’t mean they are today. Don’t dig in the attic to find your old clothing so you can be stylish once again. When Paris Hilton brought them back during the last decade, quite a few rushed out to purchase them. This is one item that should never be in any person’s closet, regardless of their age or place in society. Get rid of any velour tracksuits today and purchase more stylish clothing. You won’t regret doing so.

Belt and shoes with matching color

The combo only works for the dressy occasion. Get rid of the same color rule when you wear business suits or casual wears.

Wrong pair of socks

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

White socks not only look awkward when paired with dress shoes, it can also ruin your perfect formal outfit. White socks are informal and best worn with your rubber or running shoes. If you are attending a corporate event, black or navy socks are the best choice there is.

Low-Waist Trousers

The Kardashian girls are known for their fashion sense but even they find there are certain looks they can’t pull off. Low-waist trousers are a good example of this. High-waisted jeans are always a better option, as they cover the stomach and make the legs look longer at the same time. Every person would like to have longer legs, so be sure to take advantage of this fashion trend whenever possible.

Denims in Monsoons

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

The rugged style of blue jeans is never going out of fashion. But just for the rainy season, it is advisable to keep a distance from denim. The reason being, if you get wet, which is sure to happen, you’ll have to stay in the drenched pants for ages.

The jeans take ages to dry. So, the trousers made up of fast-drying fabrics are better options for the season. Moreover, the thick fabric of jeans cannot be folded to avoid the stain of mud. So, go for the dark-colored trousers or chinos and steer clear from the fashion mistake of the rainy season.

Platform Crocs

Men, women, and kids alike love their Crocs during the summer and often throughout the year. They are easy to slip on, comfortable to wear for long hours and go with a variety of outfits. However, Crocs decided to team up with Balenciaga to create platform shoes, and some stores even sold out of these items. Anyone who owns a pair should dispose of them immediately and rethink their entire fashion sense. Crocs and platform shoes simply do not go together, regardless of what one is wearing.

Jeans with Little Fabric

Jeans with holes in them have been popular for a number of years, but certain designers have decided to take this trend to the extreme. They now offer jeans with less fabric than holes and refer to them as extreme cut-out jeans. Why spend a fortune on something that isn’t even there? It’s like the emperor with his new clothes. There’s actually nothing to them, and the pockets are easily visible as they are so threadbare. Ditch these jeans and buy a pair with some fabric included.

“Let my feet breathe in flip-flops in Monsoons”

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

How many of you advocate wearing flip-flops during the monsoon? You need to reconsider. It may appear to be a perfect piece for sunbathing and lounging at the sea shore, but it’s a bad idea. The slipper gets stuck in the mud and then lifts off the ground while walking. This leads to dollops of the mud spotting in your legs and pants. So, go for sandals and gumboots, if you don’t wanna raise eyebrows with your muddy trousers

“Leather forever”

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

While the options in casual wear are ample, the formal occasion has limited choices. This is the reason why men are not left with any other option than the leather shoes. Leather tends to stain, shrink and crack after getting wet. So, it is advisable to go for the shoes with rubber sole. The shoes of Gucci, especially the loafers are perfect for both the formals and casual events during this season.

“White is masculine even in Monsoons”

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

No color speaks style and sophistication more than white. But the scenario is different for the rainy season and for good reason. The crisp white shirt can add a gentlemanly flair to your personality. At the same time, the elegant shade is more prone to the nasty stains. Aid your masculinity by doing yourself this favor. Keep the white clothes in the closet and take advantage of the grey season. Pop out some color from your collection and stand out in style. However, in the process of making an edgy appearance do not go over-the-board. Just choose the shades that suit you and make your own fashion statement.

Man Rompers

Common Fashion Mistakes Men make and should avoid

Few women can pull off wearing a romper. Put this item on a man and ensure family and friends will never speak to you again. Most people have never seen a man in a romper. For those who have, this is a sight they will never forget no matter how much they wish they could. Leave these for the younger females in the family who have the body to pull this look off with ease.

Wrapping Up

Don’t hesitate to update your wardrobe. Although everyone makes bad choices when it comes to their apparel, this doesn’t mean every item was a mistake. Only a few items are actually crimes against fashion. Chances are you don’t have any of these items so you can shop with confidence and feel easy every time you go out in public. If you have made one or more of these mistakes, it’s time to try again. You can look and feel good. It’s simply a matter of knowing what works for you.

Many occasions can occur in a year. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to redeem yourself by improving your clothing style especially now that already know the common fashion mistakes men make. Make it a point to dress appropriately and never get caught red handed with a wrong pair of shoes again!

I thanks for the suggestions. I agree jeans are better being fit rather than too tight or too long or loose. I think if one prefers more defining trousers skinny fit is an alternative and looks better than skinny tight.
On white socks it’s also true, although there are technically dress white socks as well, which are thinner and less flashy. Imho they only work with less contrasting outfits and matching the shirt.

On cargo shorts, I have nothing against carrying a purse, but some people prefer having their onw style and like cargo shorts despite not being a trend anymore, like the 80’s.
