5 Types of Wine: When Is The Best Time to Indulge in Them

Wine is a chic and sophisticated drink which is now being, believe it or not, acknowledged for its significant health benefits. A lot of wine experts refer to red wine as a heart-friendly option while some claim that white wine is rich with cogent antioxidants.

If you are new to the world of wine, here are some things that you must know about this classy alcoholic drink. Wine is, more often than not, produced by fermenting grapes. However, take note that the grapes used in making wine are not the ones that you can find in the supermarket. Wine grapes are special; they contain sweet, small seeds, and have thick skin.

These special grapes are carefully selected and processed to produce various types of wine that are, for the most part, enjoyed all over the world. Did you know that there are at least two hundred kinds of wine that vary according to their style and taste? For this reason, understanding wine can become tricky. But these wines can be, fortunately, categorized into five types.

Red Wine

The delightful dark red color originated from the dark colored grape classifications. It comes explicitly from pigments of the grapes’ skin. Red wine has a slightly strong and powerful flavor.

Nowadays, there are plenty of red wines available in the market, from Montoya Cabernet to Sokolin Red wine. Not only that red wine is excellent for destressing, but it also offers some great health benefits.

It is excellent for the skin, whether for naturally beautiful skin, acne prone skin, or aging skin. Also, according to a study, red wine drinkers promote a longer life. It also helps you to rest peacefully because it contains melatonin.

If you want a thick and shiny hair,  then red wine can surely help. Just wash your hair with red wine as a concluding rinse. Lastly, it also helps to minimize the risk of hair loss.

White Wine

Although the name of this type of wine is white wine, it does not exactly mean that the wine itself is white in color. Instead, it has a golden-yellowish hue. White wine is, for the most part, produced from white grapes that might be yellowish or green in color.

The different flavors of white wine can vary from light to zesty, rich and tangy to creamy. There are also different types of white wines which might include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Moscato.

Rose Wine

This type of wine is best known as Rosato or Rosada in different regions. Rose wine is usually rosy and pinkish. The longer the skin of the grapes is, for the most part, left in the cask, the darker the color will be. The flavor of this wine is usually dry. It means that it’s not very sweet.

Sparkling Wine

This type of wine is carbonated. Sparkling wine is one of the exquisite examples of an effervescent wine. A perfect example is champagne. The sparkling effect of this type of wine comes from the high levels of carbon dioxide incorporated in the alcoholic drink. And the flavors of sparkling wine might differ from sweet to dry.

Fortified Wine

Fortified wines are distilled wines. There are five styles of fortified wine, namely, Madeira, Marsala, Port, Sherry, and Vermouth. This type of wine is made by fortifying wines or preserving wines, adding more flavors to the finished product. Fortified wines are often enjoyed as a drink after or before dinner. In general, this type of wine is best as a dessert and aperitif wine option.

If you consider yourself as a wine lover, it is more likely that you will have the expression or phrase wine o’ clock on several occasion or even on a typical day. However, there is no specific time of the year for which you can enjoy drinking wine.

Instead, you can freely enjoy drinking wines at any time of the year. But take note that for summers, white wines and rose wines are excellent for satiating and gratifying your thirst. Remember to chill them before serving. On the other hand, for winters, red wines and sparkling wines make the best option.
